Mexican Recipe Ideas for Cuaresma (Lent)

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Cuaresma (Lent). Cuaresma is the forty day period (Sundays not included) before Easter. For many of us living in Mexico, Cuaresma is a time when we refrain from eating meat on Fridays from now until Easter Sunday. Cuaresma is one of my favorite times of the year in Mexico because of the traditional Mexican dishes that are especially popular during Lent. Recipes like Capirotada (Mexican bread pudding), chiles rellenos, tacos de papa (potato), tostadas de ceviche (soy ceviche tostadas), and a plethora of seafood and egg dishes.

This year for Cuaresma, I am teaming up once again with my friend Silvia from Mamá Latina Tips, along with a few of our food blogger friends, to bring you new meatless or seafood recipes once a week.

For those of you that observe Cuaresma (Lent) and are looking for menu ideas, here is a collection of some of my favorite Mexican recipes my family enjoys year after year.

What are your favorite Cuaresma (Lent) dishes?

  2. Thanks for the response Leslie! I posted this to my fb page and raved about your site as well. Every recipe I try turna out fab!

This one turned out just as beautifully! My 4 year old ate 2 legs and a thigh and was LITERALLY licking the sauce off the plate. Ahe kept saying "thank you mami, for making me such yummy food!" (She kills me with her "thank yous" ) . Will freeze the leftovers per your advice, it will be a quick dinner waiting for us in the freezer for a lazy day.

Thanks again! Hope your week goes well!
